So, I was told that there would be more traffic on this thread if I posted in the Open Discussion area. I think that this thread is more appropriate in the Famous Bands and Artists area, but I don't think that many people visit that area.

Anyways, this is a battle for what we feel is the best singer of all time. We all submitted our top 3 singers, and I made a list based on those submissions.

Here's the final list:

1 Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden)
2 Ronnie James Dio (solo/Black Sabbath)
3 Liam Gallagher (Oasis)
4 Ian Gillan (Deep Purple)
5 Brian Johnson (AC/DC)
6 Janis Joplin (solo)
7 B.B. King (solo)
8 Geddy Lee (Rush)
9 Freddie Mercury (Queen)
10 Ozzy Osbourne (Black Sabbath)
11 Robert Plant (Led Zep)
12 Bon Scott (AC/DC)
13 David Clayton Thomas (Blood, Sweat and Tears)
14 Stevie Ray Vaughan (solo)
15 Roger Waters (Pink Floyd)
16 Thom Yorke (Radiohead)

We'll pit them against each other, two at a time, starting from the top of the list and we'll work our way down. According to my calculations, it'll take 5 rounds, with 15 separate matches.

Round #1, Match #1 -
Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) vs. Ronnie James Dio (solo/Black Sabbath)

We've already had three votes for Dio, and in the Famous Bands area, I had decided to say that 4 votes constitutes a win, but I'll probably revise that based on the amount of people I see voting on the thread.
... and that's all I have to say about that.

Looks like he wins, hands down.

Round #1, Match #2:
Liam Gallagher (Oasis) vs. Ian Gillan (Deep Purple)

I think I'll keep it at 4 votes wins, for now.

... and that's all I have to say about that.

Methinks yon Led Zeppelin doth protest too much! He used to use some lines from the Fireball album as a sign-off. (Sung by Ian Gillan, of course). lol :D

It kind of defeats the purpose of having singing wars when there are so few people on the list who can sing... Obviously it's all preference, but to not even include in the competition such musicians famous for their voice as Jeff Buckley, Bono, Van Morrison, Madonna, Eddie Vedder, John Lennon, makes this a rather boring comp. I'd even put Nicole Kidman and Ewen McGregor above some of these guys, and they aren't even making their career out of their voices.
Note, Gwyneth Paltrow is an example of why actors should usually keep quiet when it comes to singing, I hope Moulin Rouge doesn't inspire any actors to start bands, Russel Crowe and Keanu Reeves are already too much.

Hey Bardsley, the list was voted on by everyone, so I didn't totally invent it myself (although I did do some editing). But I do like your suggestions for Bono, Vedder and Lennon. Perhaps I'll add them or "edit" the list some more.

Thanks for your suggestions.

led zeppelin, dude
have you ever heard child in time??
ian gillan incredibly sucks now, but back in the 70's he was as good as god... there were no singers like him then, and im not sure if there are any now... he is like ten times better than any other guy of his time, and offcorse better than the oasis singer ian gillan had an amazing range, check DP live cuts, like made in japan and compare it to something like "the song remains the same" video, and you will find out the ian gillan is the god of singing
almost none of the DP singers sucked, they got fired or left coze noone could work with lord and blackmore that's all.

offcorse my vote to Ian gillan
