Hi, I'm a big fan of EVH and am looking for some guidance as to what courses to complete. I'm coming to the end of Blues 2 (I did the rock courses first), and now I'd like to focus more on the exact type of sounds I want to make. I noticed a couple of lessons, one is a style of introduction and the other is an artist study. I saw there are a couple of songs as well. Are there a set of backing tracks available that are in the Van Halen style that would allow me to practice soloing using the techniques I'm learning in the lessons? Are there any other courses I should check out? I really like the type of tapped harmonics used as fills on Poundcake by Van Halen, is that a song that may be added, or is there another song available using similar techniques? Thanks

Hi there,

EVH is awesome and we have a couple of tutorials focused on his style.

Check thse out!

Mike teaches a crash course on EVH: https://www.guitartricks.com/lesson.php?input=25981

Once you complete that tutorial, it's time to really dig in. Dave has a fairly extensive tutorial focused entirely on the Van Halen style. It is a ton of stuff to dig through, so I hope you're ready!

Check it out here: https://www.guitartricks.com/lesson.php?input=24686

Best,

Billy

Thanks for the quick reply. Are you able to answer the second part of my questions as well: Are there a set of backing tracks available that are in the Van Halen style that would allow me to practice soloing using the techniques I'm learning in the lessons? Are there any other courses I should check out? I really like the type of tapped harmonics used as fills on Poundcake by Van Halen, is that a song that may be added, or is there another song available using similar techniques? Thanks

Yes, Dave's tutorial has jam tracks (backing tracks with the guitar removed). See here:

I have a tutorial on 70s arena rock type material that might help.

And this tutorial on using the vibrato bar.

Dave does some harmonic tapping in this section of the tutorial.

You should add that to the song request document. But to my knowledge VH or their publisher has not approved any of their songs for legally official lessons.
