Well, I have been playing guitar for a year or so and I am looking to get rid of my original 'training' equipment and move on. Currently I am playing a Vantage Electric guitar with two unknown humbuckers in it. I have tried to get the model of the guitar identified, but noone seems to know what it is, even the people who work at the guitar stores. My amplifier is a small 30 watt Crate amp. It doesn't really sound very good.

The main reason why I am having trouble deciding what equipment I should purchase to replace my current stuff is that I like two different styles of music...grunge rock or punk, and heavy metal.

See I could buy a Fender Jaguar with DiMarzio Super Distortion pickups or a Fender Mustang with Seymour Duncan JB's and plug into a Fender Twin Reverb, and be able to pull off some pretty good punk sounds, using Boss DS2 for my distortion effects, but then I wouldn't be able to produce the heavy sound I want when I want to play Metal.

So, my 2nd option is to buy an ESP guitar, loaded up with EMG 60's or EMG 81's, or perhaps place a Duncan Invader into a Fender Guitar, and plug it into a Marshall setup, but then I wouldn't be able to pull off the punk sound.

So, what should I do? People have been telling me things I should think about like Paul Reed Smith Guitars, or that I should try a Mesa Boogie Amplifier instead of Fender or Marshall.

What do you guys suggest?
