what I've done with the scales to get faster is to try them different ways. I was stuck on the pent blues scale and couldn't play it fast or accurately until I sat down and REALLY practiced it. What I mean by that is this:
Play the whole scale, the pent terms... all the positions up and down the fretboard (I did it to the 12th) a few times, then do alternate picking, then try it hammering on the 2nd or 2nd and 3rd notes of each line.. then try double picking each note, then triple, and so on play around with it till you're so comfortable that if you start on the 4th note of the scale you can naturally find the next higher or lower note... the speed will come...
