Yep Shure SM57 and SM58, brilliant and under 100 bucks each.... new !

One word of warning, SM57 output is quite low which means it is best used with some sort of pre amp (a cheep Behringer or ART will do the job I have used both and they are good entry level pres, also under 100 bucks second hand (eBay). You can upgrade to an Avalon later !!!!).

Using a pre can cause confusion and falling over if you don't do your gain staging correctly as you can end up with a lot of noise on your recording.

Once you have a pre that can supply phantom power you might want to think about at Shure KSM condenser. They are very cool and very reasonably priced. I am using a KSM44 at the moment, top of the line KSM series and it is both versatile and sounds great. Im running it through a Focusrite pre (after selling my Behringer and ART pres) with a digital output card and it just sounds fantastic !

Personally I love SM57s !
