I always sit down and i just play soem covers of other peoples songs, i like doing that. Then I'll get some backing tracks up on the computer, and play over them.

I'm not a huge fan of a metrenome, but my parents usually encourage me to satrt off slow, if im trying to practice a michael romeo, or yngwie lick.

Or do you guys... learn strict scales in different keys? More of a theory learner i guess im trying to get across. I'm not really blazing fast, i cna pick about 10 notes per second without slurring, 10 cleanly, and sometimes 11 nps. I do not pick every note though. i do alot of hammer one and pull offs. But i do not slurr, i do pick about 60 % of the time. I think feel is more important ( although i like to sit down sometimes and practicing ascending "shred" scales).

That's really my way of practicing and what kind of player i am.
