Just don't get one just because you like its looks, or one of your pros plays it.
Make sure you test it out before you get it, it could save you from wasting hundreds of dollars.
For the pedal, I'd go with whatever you can afford in the RP series by Digitech... They have nice clean amp models, and distorted ones, plus great onboard effects, I've always thought they were great.
If you end up getting one of those pedals, then you should get an amp that you can use as apeaker, as the footpedal will give most of your tone. Any solid - state inexpensive amp can do this. (actually you don't really need to get an amp, just any speaker that sounds nice, one time I've even used computer speakers)
