I don't own any trem-equipped guitars because they aren't worth the hassle for the stuff I play. (Obviously I'm not into metal).

From all the complaints and cries for help I've seen in this part of the forum, and in Tech Talk, I seriously think your buddy would be better off to have a different guitar for each tuning! Making a change of [u]any[/u] kind is that much hassle.
