Take it to a professional (it won't cost $200 bucks, more like $30-40 and well worth it) and get it set up. Pick a set of strings you like and STICK WITH THAT BRAND. Do not deviate from the brand. If you like the whammymaster .009's with the .042 low E string, don't go and buy the Slickjam .009's with the .046 low E. That minor change in tension will throw everything out of whack. Your intonation will change, the bridge will probably sit higher, which will make your action higher also. Don't listen to the guy behind the counter, just pick a good set of strings and stick with them.
