I haven't really tried to play the song yet, but I was going to use a pick yes. While playing stairway to heaven I figured out that it was much easier for me to use a pick and use my middle-, ringfinger and pinky if necessary for the other strings. Then I learned that this was a proper technique known as "hybrid picking" :)
