If you have a very good amp, e.g a fairly expensive half stack amp, would there be any point in using a destortion pedal ? Or would that just take away the unique sound or the amp ? Also does anyone find that zoom pedal makes your guitar sound exactly the same as any other guitar and amp using that same pedal ?
By virtue of their electrical properties, tubes generate a special waveform when they're saturated, which is why tube engineering has tremendous tonal advantages over solid state or DSP solutions, particularly for crunch and lead sounds. Tubes enter the saturation zone gradually or softly, which lends tube-driven tone its trademark yet totally unique character.
