Florida has a statewide smoking ban in all their restaurants. I think straight-up bars are still smokable. I disagree with banning smoking in bars, it's part of the whole bar experience y'know. You're there to kill yourself slowly.

True enough, but not when it endangers those around you. If some eager music enthusiasts want to go see their favorite band perform in a bar, they should be able to do that without having to bear the smoke. That's only fair. Studies confirm that second-hand smoke is every bit as dangerous if not more so.

I think many studies confirm only what the people who finance them (like the US Govt) want to hear !

The way the media carry on in the US.. its like one toke and your as good as dead. Same with Ganja, one spliff and you are beyond hope which many of us will know from first had experience is a lot of rubbish.

I don’t think passive smoking is anything like as bad as people make out. Any how people who don’t want to be subject to other peoples smoke in bars can go somewhere else. I did when I thought it would be too much for me. I go to a bar ...well cos its a bar and in my book that has nothing to do with drinking carrot juice, sprout yoghurt or breathing pure clean mountain air and thinking pure thoughts !

Restraunts and the work place well, that is a little differant.

You know what, I was listening to "Love Line" the other night on my way home, and Dr. Drew and Adam were having this discussion.

Dr. Drew (who's a doctor) said that the Washington Medical Journal (or something along those lines) did a study about second hand smoke. Out of the millions of people they studied, 2 were shown to die directly from second hand smoke.

So take that as you will.

Smoking's been deamed an unacceptable social behavior due to health implications. I respect that. I rarely smoked in a group or room because of 2nd hand smoke and I sure as hell wouldn't mind walking outside to smoke if a ban is in place ...if I still smoked. What gets me is when they decide to revoke our right to make that decision on our own. Not only are we being brainwashed by commercials, ads and such but they're making them so costly with taxes that it's virtually imposible to maintain your drinking habits along side your smoking ones (lol). They, the govt., are afraid of the corporational structure they've set up coming down on them if they completely outlaw cigarettes and they're afraid of the illegal market and scandle that will result due to banning. So they decide to subconciously filter them out of society just like they're subconciously allowing companies to subconciously affect our subconcious in ways only a subway or chevy commercial subconciously could. And they're winning. That annoys me because everybody's a sheep and we're wasting our lives so that the U.S. of Stinking Eh can get more oil.

I think we'll all end up quitting for the same reason we all started - peer pressure.

Who does anything from direct peer-pressure anymore unless its agreeable amongst yourself?
Sure theres pressure on a subconcious level, but I didnt start smoking because of anyone...
it was simply there and the enviroment I lived in(and still do)made it easily accessible.I tried it,found it relaxing and saw it as some kind of worthwhile addition to my life and character....yeah I was wrong, but isnt that the real reason why most people do things?Good or bad?

I started smoking when I was in high school and got a job as a bagboy at our local grocery store. I was amazed to walk in the back and see kids I knew from school, throwing boxes of merchandise around and having cigarettes hanging out of their mouths. We were allowed to take 15 minute breaks and I'd go back there and hotbox a cig and catch a righteous nicotine buzz. It made the rest of my shift go by faster when I was baggin people's groceries whilst being dizzy.

Hummm I cant say that it was peer pressure that made me quit, I think it had just become too much of a pain in the ass.

Having to take a break every 15 min, having to have a pack or two of cig with me at all times, running out of cigs (....what a disaster !) haven't to organize at least two sources of fire, having people bum them off you constantly, having to organize my day round...when do I have my first one of the day cos I know it will make me light headed and useless for about 15 min.

As for Dr Drew...give me a break! If he is such a good doctor what is he doing hosting a radio show ! It suggests that unlike me, he is not at the for front of research !
(Did you see my new paper in Mol. Biol. Cell "in press" it is very cool !)

Here is something think about whilst debating the various forms of logical fallacy: People have had enough problems proving that smoking is bad for you (we all know it is however there is such a thing as the burden of proof). Tobacco companies have ridden this wave in and out of legal history for years. This would not be possible if some radio quack could suddenly conjure a reputable study that conclusively proved that two people had died from the effects of second hand smoke. It is a crock !

Ugh...half my band smokes. It sickens me. At least it causes me to do my laundry more often. It's even worse when you come home reeking like reifer.

speaking of reefer, im in a dub reggae band, which is funny because i do very light/moderate smoking of weed. maybe once a week or two. i guess im kindof exempt from the steriotype of a terrible guitar player of a stoner reggae band that just covers bob marley or something.

on a side note, this band im in rocks hard booty. guitar solos galore, anyone?
