right, avoid any silicone products...if you ever take a guitar in for repair to a shop that also does finishing-repaints the silicone will migrate into their shop and it is nearly impossible to get it out, it will move around for years and make it nearly impossible for them to do good finishing and re-paint jobs.
I have a copy of Erlewine's repair book and he suggests just using a soft cloth and a tiny bit of water to clean guitars.
I use Dunlop cleaner but you gotta get the gunk off first or you're just polishing gunk and spreading it around.
