Here is how I work on chord changes in the beginning.  First, put the metronome away for a little bit.  Next fret one of the chords, for example Cmaj7.  Take your hand away completely off the guitar neck, then land back on the chord.  I remember one of the GuitarTricks instructors had a video on the Youtube channel talking about making the chord shape in the air before landing on the chord to practice eventually getting all fingers down at the same time.  Once landing the chord is comfortable introduce the next chord.  At this time I would bring back the metronome and work on chord changes like Cmaj7 to C on repeat at a slow tempo.  It may sound boring but starting slow and gradually increasing the tempo is how you can eventually get up to the "playing with the band" speed.

I'm no expert, but I am a new again beginner who is learning how to play left handed since I am naturally lefty.  I played classical guitar in high school and college over 25 years ago right handed because that was just how they taught it then.
