Besides "lock the strap".

It locks the strap to your guitar so that it can't accidently fall. I've been using Dunlop Straploks for years now. All of my electric guitars are fitted with this system, so I can change guitars while wearing the same strap. The way the strap button on the guitar is designed, you can still use an ordinary strap if you need to. The spring-loaded plunger assembly is mounted on the strap, and it plugs into the end of the strap button. It can only be released by pushing the button at the end of the plunger.
