I think you can get a wide neck electric guitar if that is an issue for you.

Personally, I am learning on the acoustic, because it is just a guitar. I don't have to also learn about amps and pedals and tones and effects. It's also cheaper, and I can play it whenever, wherever.

When I become competent, I will want to explore the electric guitar as well, but that is just me and my journey. As long as you are having fun and making progress, I don't think it will matter that much.
