That is simply two different ways to play the same notes.  The scale finder is coded to display notes in one way.  But I find that my pattern is more efficient for more musical passages.  I use the other one, too, but a lower percentage of the time.

The wider issue here is that it is possible to play the same note in more than one place on the guitar. 

So any given scale can be played in a variety of ways.  So you start as a beginner to learn one way to play any given scale so you can start making music with it.  As you gain more skills you can learn more options and you'll find that some patterns are more effective in playing certain musical passages.

For example, if you can play 3 notes of a melody all together on one string that might be easier than having to cross to another string to play 2 notes of the melody on one string, then the 3rd note on a different string.  Conversely, you might find that it's easier to use 2 strings because the notes are too far apart (fret span too wide) to play all 3 notes comfortably on one string.

Eventually, it becomes helpful to learn and practice a variety of ways to play any given scale in order to make the music you want to play.  It's like having a bigger set of tools so you can do more jobs.
