Hey, George.


All of those options can make a good plan.  Here are some ideas for streamlining them so you don't get burned out or discouraged.


Learning 6 songs is a great idea.  Playing songs is the end goal of learning guitar of course.  But songs can also show you which skills and ideas you need to focus on.  Pick songs that you like but also have parts that are relatively close to your skill level.  If you encounter parts that are way too hard to do now (solos, or complex parts), then set them aside and find a way to get through the whole song by simplifying it.  Or just play the rhythm until you get better at lead, for example.


With that in mind this link is a list of GT songs sorted by difficulty.

While you are learning those songs, you will also benefit from working through either the rock course or the metal style page tutorials.  Those curriculum will show you the basic skills & idea you'll need to build & understand to learn songs.  Which one you do depends on which style motivates you more to practice.
