Hey

When I started I was very regimented, I gave a few minutes - up to 10 to each activity and had a little plan I worked off each day. Since then I have heard that its not about the time given to an exercise but how many times you practice the specific activity. For example if I were to practice the E minor blues scale, instead of allocating 5 minutes to it, I would repeat 10 times in each positions. And this is what I actually do now, if there is a lick I am trying to get up to speed I will give it a go for a number of times and then move on. Eventually I will get it.

I think songs are important, and I would suggest that at least half of your time be put towards learning a song. Now that I am a bit further along, and this morning is a perfect example, my entire hour was spent on 1 song. And the rest of the week will likely be the same until I have it down.

What I have noticed is that for me there is no straight line. Its more of a zig zag, two steps forward and one step back type of thing, but I always go back! Some lessons are so difficult I have to break away for a time, and then continue in a few days.

So I am assuming you are were I started - knowing nothing. It would be helpful if you don't already have it, create an activity list for each day and allocate a small amount of either time or repetitions to each - again spending most of your time on songs.

And lastly, here is some bad amateur advice: I don't do warm ups. I used to, but an hour goes way to fast and the rest of the day will not wait!! (I block in an hour before work each day btw)

This is a hobby, it doesn't pay the bills. I just open my guitar bag, get my play list ready and start, finish in an hour and put it all away to start my day.

Best of luck

Bill

This year the diet is definitely gonna stick!
