I'm not familiar with "5 Minute Guitar" but most people here start with one of the Learning Paths in the Core Learning System. That's undoubtedly the best place to start for beginners, even if you are 8 month into your learning. You're probably going to have a rough go of it if you immediately jump into attempting to learn and play songs from the song library.
