So hi, I am Kass and I am Aussie :)
As a teenager I was reasonably good on a piano but struggled with big chords because I have smallish hands and what I loveingly call stumpy boy fingers. I never got far with guitar for that reason. I am able to read music to an extent - as with anything, the more you practice that, the better you get!
However, after one heck of a crappy year or so, I decided I was not going to be beaten and I bought a guitar.
I got a 3/4 Traveller size - it's a Yamaha APTX2 and I absolutely love it.
So far I am doing the Fundamentals 1 with Anders and I have to say he's a great teacher - I was trying to teahc myself through a book and YouTube but it wasn't working for me. I had a really good day yesterday and felt like I was doing super well, until today when I got to the C and D major chords - holy heck they are hard!!!
So anyway, HI - if there are others in Brisbane or even around Australia on here, I'd love to wave hello.
Music tastes are somewhat varied:
- devoted Pearl Jam fan and 10 Club member
- Committed Swiftie
- haven't missed a Kylie Minogue tour in Australia...ever
- can listen to YoYo Ma play Bach on the cello all day long
- love classical ballet music
- really like singer/songwriters and those who can strip back big songs to a single instrument and make it brilliant
Have a great weekend, everyone!
Kass
Hi Kass, and welcome to the Guitar Tricks forum! πΈπ
It's awesome to have you here, and thanks for sharing your story! It sounds like you've already overcome a lot to get back into music—your determination is inspiring. That Yamaha APTX2 sounds like a great choice for your journey, and it's fantastic that you're loving Fundamentals 1 with Anders. He really does make learning accessible and fun, doesn’t he?
Don’t worry about C and D major feeling tough—every guitarist has been there! Those chords can be a challenge at first, but with patience and practice, they’ll come together before you know it. Stumpy fingers or not, you’ve got this!
Your music tastes are so eclectic—it’s great to see someone who appreciates everything from Pearl Jam to YoYo Ma. I’m sure you’ll find plenty of like-minded folks here, and hopefully, some fellow Aussies to wave to as well.
Feel free to ask questions, share your progress, or just hang out here whenever you need support or inspiration. We're all rooting for you!
Have a fantastic week, and enjoy every moment of your guitar journey! πΆ
