I'm probably going to get roasted to hell for this. I understand hollow body electric guitars. They sound nice. But solid body guitars have me puzzled; wouldn't they all sound identical? I mean, it's strings and pickups , nothing else to help the sound, right?
It is not that simple. Yes acoustics rely on sound resonating through the body of the guitar. Electrics do the same, but use pickups to grab the sound and project it through an amp. The construction of the guitar, the woods used the placement of the pickups and the type of pickups all make a huge difference. Same with hardware used, things like frets, bridge, nut all effect the sounds The fret board wood type makes a big difference as well. There are many elements that make one guitar sound very different from another.
