Instead of being glued or bolted to the end of the body, The neck is a solid piece the whole length of the guitar, with the body parts stuck onto either side of the neck assembly. This makes for a much more solidly constructed instrument, but a truss rod is still needed, to compensate for the string tension on the neck.
