i partially agree. If your guitar is good enough, 10-46 is fine (my Gibson Les Paul uses 10-46, and it sounds wonderful with the light strings). My Squier on the other hand, i put 12-52's on it, and it got considerably better sounding with the heavier strings.

When i put 12-52 on my Les Paul, it didn't get any better really; Alot of guitars are set up for 10-46 (all gibsons are), and it all depends on your tone.

Semi hollowbody's and Hollowbodies are set up for heavier gauges almost always. 11-50 at minimum. Jazzer's play as high as 14-56, shredders play as low as 6-38.

Big difference, there!
