First you should always keep in mind that old strings suck tone , try changing them as often as you can .

For a specific tone from strings , it's hard to describe the tone you need in terms of depth,warmth,thickness,brightness,etc. ... I suggest you should try the strings that your fav guitarist (in terms of tone) uses.

Also the strings gauge can be noticeable from their tone , more gauge will give you more attack (more punch , in-your-face ) , thicker kinda tone ... Most people agree that heavier gauge gives better tone .
