Yeah, that should help. Good right hand muting is probably the best solution in the long run. Whenever you're about to reposition your left hand by sliding it up the neck and you're not sustataining a note, gently place your right hand palm on the strings near the bridge. This prevents unwanted noise and works quite well when you get good at it.
