As you play your guitar, eventually there will be some fret wear. This will be more severe in some places than others. If you do a lot of bends and pull-offs in the same position all the time, the rest of the frets wil be relatively untouched compared to the worn-down frets in your favourite position.

When you fret a string on one of the worn spots, there is less clearance between the underside of the string and the top of the higher frets. Fret-buzz starts to happen, on some strings, in some places on the neck. This will happen eventually to anyone - it's just a matter of time.

The cure is either to file down the less-worn frets to match the worn ones (a process called "re-crowning"), or, in severe cases, to replace the worn frets.

Either way, it's a tricky job, best left to an expert.
