Well I got the boxed set and they appear to be brilliant. There is not much that is fundamentally new but their is a new way to look at the fret board.

Book 1 (of three): Center round getting you to play everything using the five different positions up and down neck and treat these five positions as contiguous. Example, you can play a C chord using the C shape at the nut, the A shape on fret 3 , a G shape, and E shape and D shape (Hence the name the CAGED system). Book 1 then apply this to the pentatonic boxes and sliding scales. This is good as it gets a player out of one box and into all of them, forcing lazy players (like my self) to cover new ground.

Book two starts doing the same thing to modes and other tonal derivations of the diatonic scale as well as expanding chord vocabulary. and this is as far as I have got so far. Their is a third book which covers application and that I think will be very cool however Im going to take my time getting through the first two to make sure I have covered everything completely!

These books are not really for beginners. I have found them interesting and am pleased with my $90 bucks worth thus far. There is an address for teachers (who want to use these books) to order them at a discount.
