I came home this past Friday to find my whole house about 2 inches deep in water. I had a water line bust in my kitchen and it friggin flooded everything. I spent hours that night moving furniture and ripping up carpet. The room right next to my kitchen is my living room.. which took the brunt of the damage. Well in there is my JCM 2000 DSL full marshall stack, my crate gcx40, both my ibanez's (one a les paul custom collectors item) and my fender acoustic. Now the acoustic was on a stand up off the floor.. one of my ibanez's was sitting on the floor propped up against the wall. LUCKILY none of my equipment was damaged. I had some furniture damage but who cares about that? :P. Now the reason for me babbling about all this? Well I didn't have renters insurance. Luckily I am fairly ok with the damage I got. I can afford to replace the few things that are destroyed. But the main reason I never got renters insurance is because I figured I couldn't afford it. OK so yes I was a moron for not atleast checking into it. I called yesterday to see about getting it. I live in Pensacola, Fl and am within 2500 feet of the water so I thought it would be outrageous. A $25,000 policy is only going to cost me $18.67 a month. Ugh I wish I had done this sooner. Now.. one more key point. I'm not sure if this is just the insurance company I am going through (State Farm) or not. That policy covers all of the contents of my house EXCEPT for my musical equipment (why I have no idea). I am taking out a seperate $5,000 dollar policy on my guitars and amps. That's only going to be $45 a year. Well worth it in my opinion.

Well.. I just wanted to warn everyone. If you think it can't happen... finding your guitars destroyed would be a bad way to find out it can! If you rent and don't have renters insurance check into it. If you do have it.. make sure it covers your musical equipment. I don't know about insurance in other countries but where ever you live I would check into some insurance if you don't already have it! It might not be as expensive as you think!
