For the last few years, I've listened to everything I can by Chris Smither.  The first link below is him singing Place in Line.  Of course, he sounds better and more polished in a studio-produced track on Pandora, often with a female singing harmony.  Delicious.

It looks like he uses a thumb pick and fingerstyle.  And some sort of brace on his left hand.  He's no youngster - born in 1944.  He was well thought of in the 1970s, lost quite a few years to alcoholism, decided to get sober, and came back big time.

He's a great songwriter.  His lyrics range from cynical to humorous to heartbreaking.  But he's a pretty decent player, too.  Please check him out if you're not already familiar with him.

I've transcribed the lyrics and chords (simple I, IV and V) to Place in Line and am practicing singing it as a solo.  Now I just need an audience.  Also, once I start singing, I forget how to keep strumming.  I'll check out GT for tips on strumming while singing.

The second link is to Leave the Light On, another one of my favorites.  That will be my next song to work on as a solo.  I couldn't find Confirmation online, or I would have sent that too.

I try to play a little every day to keep the fingertips tough and the guitar in tune.  Changed strings recently and everything sounds bright.

Have a great day!
