Hype has helped a lot of "successful" "artists" who wouldn't be where they are otherwise get to where they are.People have made money through "aiming to be famous".Unless you consider making money idiocy...
Now,at an artistic level,fame simply happens to be a consequence of what you do.Artists make their art for others to consume.Artists want to their message to be heard.You write a song,aiwass,I'm sure you want someone to hear it.
When the someones become many,you become famous.
There's nothing idiotic about it.
If you ask me(of course if you don't....)you shouldn't go out of your way to avoid being "too"(how much is too much?) famnous.
Just do your thing and the other stuff sort itself out.
