Hi all....I have just decided (at age 63) to start learning the guitar. My only musical training was piano lessons for about six months that were forced upon me by my late mom at age 8 or so (when I really wanted to learn the drums). Needless to say, I failed at that because I didn't really want to learn. But I love music and my daughter plays a bit of guitar. She went off to live away from home and brought her guitar with her but left her first inexpensive guitar that she learned on. I figured I'd like to learn, grabbed her old one and said why not give it a try. Two days in and I am loving it so far.

It's never to late Howard, many older folks on here who either started or restarted their playing after a long hiatus from it. I restarted at 57 and will be turning 60 soon and still loving it. The key is to keep your expectations within reason. At our age Carnegie Hall may not be calling us anytime soon so theres no pressure to have it perfect. Theres a lot to this instrument. Go slow, keep it fun and enjoy the process.

Thanks so much Moe! definitely not going to be going to Carnegie hall.....but it would be fun to be rocking a bit in my basement a year or two from now

Never too late Howard!

I'm 63 as well. My kids are amazed that when I was born there were only 49 states.

Definitely never too late. I'm 55 and tried without success to learn to play the guitar on 3 different occasions in my life and have 3 different guitars marking those periods. Unfortunately after 3 or 4 months on each occasion the learning stopped..

I put it down to boring books the first 2 times and too much looking at YouTube and getting confused the third time.

This time I signed up to Guitar Tricks and taking it steady through Anders beginners course and after a month am noticing a vast improvement I never previously got in 4 months.

At our age it needs to be all about the journey as we're unlikely to make it to Carnegie Hall... or any hall... Have a nice trip.

Hi Steve....well I'm a couple of weeks in and taking it slow but I do have to say that I am enjoying it quite a bit. Definitely not ending up in a hall but would be nice to be able to play what I want for myself!
