I'm not impressed by his recent stuff, mainly because it sounds like recycled out-takes from his early material.

Mind you, his early material still leaves me stirred and shaking. The first three tracks of the Abraxus album are part of my hypothetical 'desert island' collection... (you know, the music that I would have to have with me if I was stranded on a deserted island). The arrangement of so many instrumental parts into a flowing, cohesive, whole is something I don't get to hear these days. And I miss it!

My favorite album of his has to be the Sacred Fire album. Its a live album. Its pretty cool.
As for his new stuff, I like a lot of the fillers on his albums. A favorite of mine is The Calling, with him and Eric Clapton.

don't get me wrong here. i like his fillers and techmique. i just think that he is overrated because ALL his stuff is filler now. i've heard his old stuff and it's pretty good. but now he's all filler no killer.
Thanks for listening to this small piece of me.

I think you may have misunderstood me. I was just saying I like a lot of the "B material" rather than the singles on his albums.

His old stuff is good, new songs all sound alike except the one he did with Everlast and the one he did with POD. Hes a great guitarist, but I think he should quit collaborating with everyone and do some of his own stuff.

i really need to watch the Woodstock video again. he was so great then. but some people think i'm trying to say he's not a gifted guitarist. he's great! but he does need to make his own music. i mean, how the hell does this guy do tours you know?

i guess that makes sense.

also, i don't think he's a good latin guitarist. he's trash compared to any other latin guitarist, he can just do skilled licks that he repeats and changes slightly. but the licks become mindless and boring.
Thanks for listening to this small piece of me.

Santana tours all the time, he's probably in the top percentile of money making touring acts. Remember, Santana has over 30yrs of material to draw upon, he doesn't need to cover those collaborations w/other artists that you hear on the radio all the time, that's not what his live show is about. He does those collaborations to sell cd's and get radio airplay.
