It's a combination of open and barre chords (though of course you could play all the chords as barres if you chose to), but the F#m and B7 (played as a B barre chord for now) are well placed in terms of practice in reaching for 5th and 6th string major/minor barre chords. As such, it's a good "barre chord practice" song, not too hard and not too easy and hitting all the basics. (And a classic and amazing song as a bonus)
Bass note strum pattern works great for this song -- and it gives you an extra beat to find the barre chord...
