Nope your not doing anything wrong. Your on par with the rest of us. Sore fingers comes with the territory especially at the beginning cause you need to develop callouses. Over time you will, but be patient. You did the right thing by putting the guitar down and give your fingers a rest. It's like going to the gym. Your using muscles you've never used before. Go slow.

As for remedies you'll read many on here that usually meaning a setup on the guitar. Search the site and you'll see more about that but it basically means lowering the action or distance between string and frets, adjusting the neck and putting on light gauge strings. Get the lightest you can get for now. There are many articles and videos on youtube showing you how to do all this yourself or for about $45 the guitar shops can do it for you but with the virus it might take a bit of time.
