With acoustic guitars, its particularly important to 'try before you buy' the guitar. Brand names give you some idea of what to expect, but you still have to make sure that particular instrument wasn't made on a bad day.

I bought a Daijon ('ever heard of them?) acoustic 12-string in 1982, played it for 20 years, and sold it this summer to a guy who uses it in his recording sessions. I replaced it with a Washburn EA20-12B (not exactly the first name that most people think of) 12-string electric/acoustic that will probably last me for another 20 years. BTW, I always tune mine down a full tone, and use a capo. Even a well-made instrument will be ruined eventually by the tension of 12 strings at E tuning.

Check it out carefully, then close your eyes and listen to it. If its a good one, the name on the headstock doesn't matter.
