Hey Russ!! I use plug-ins on a mac computer for my guitar tones. For this tune, I used a pedal plug-in that comes with Apple Logic Pro called Auto-Funk. It is some sort of auto-wah/auto-filter type effect.

There are lots of choices for hardware pedals that do a similar thing these days, but unfortunately I really have no hands on experience with any. As far as older pedals - there's the Mutron pedal which does a very similar thing.
