Hey,

Fingertips, as Lisa explains in one of the lessons. Using the pads means more finger covering the string *vertically*, which means touching other strings. When you're more experienced this is not an issue, as players will use techniques to mute other strings with the same finger they're using to play the note.

I have short but fat fingers, so even with fingertips I struggle to not touch other strings.
