Hi. Welcome aboard. 😎

Neither.

If you've just restarted, it'll take about three weeks of regular playing to condition your fingers to steel strings.

Perfection ("spot on") isn't required. The pragmatic objectives are to be able to demonstrate a reasonable tactile competence at whatever is being taught, and assimilation of the correlated theory to a practically applicable understanding.

General rule of thumb is don't move on to the next lesson until both of those two objectives are met.

PS. Apple cider vinegar will take the sting out of those fingertips and toughen them. Apply with a cotton ball or cotton bud after playing. Remember to wash your hands before playing again to save the strings as it's acidic.
