When i had my first lesson i had not played guitar before, and i soon learnt how to read and play notes, but when i changed teachers to a jazz style guitar teacher i excelled alot faster. My first teacher was good up untill a point, and i can only tell you that if anytime you feel like you not learning anything new from a lesson it's time to change teachers.
