Yo guitar players,
Do any of you people out here in guitar tricks land also play the drums ?

If so Id love to know about any online recourses you may have found.

Im off now to get my first drum kit and Im very excited ! Im still gona keep with the guitar (first cut is the deepest and all that) however I recon this should really tighten up my sense of rhythm and timing!

Any hints or tricks would be appreciated

Cheers Dudes and Dudesses

If ya wanna use drums as a way to improve your rhythm and timing, ya gotta make sure your drumming is even to. Practice with a metronome. You can get some metronomes without a click, just a light, so the noise it would otherwise make doesn't get confused with the sound of your stick on a drum.
I dont play drums, but I feel that rhythm and timing is very important, so I've always practiced with a metronome. Its just the way I was taught.

I have been using a Boss Dr770 which is Ok as a metronome however programming it is a pain and once you have a program set it is relatively inflexible with regard to recording. So, full manual control and a chance to sharpen up my rhythm and timing all at once, cool !

I'd go with formal lessons, either offered at a music store or in a music class.

http://www.mxtabs.net has a drums section. I don't know anything about it, but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt you to check it out.

Drum Machines are ...well interesting. I have been using a Dr770 however it was frustrating.

As for becoming DJ drchickenshag or whatever, well I think I'll stay in the musician camp and hang out with the creative and talented as opposed to 10 per-centers and middlemen.... Tee Heee !

As for the drums, well I got me some Yamaha electronic ones which are very cool (1200 USD....Eeeek !). I also have neighbors down stairs and I’m hoping the headphone socket will prevent me from having to brutally murder them in an effort to stop them complaining about the noise!

You can pretty much relate anything to anything. I can come up with two no three ways. One, we listened to music at softball camp that had drums, so ya. Two, we also had this exercise everytime our counselor hit the bat against the mound we had to release a T stance pitch with has to do with keeping beet and yes that has to do with drums. Three we also had another hitting drill where a pitching machine released balls constantly on a certain beat, and yes that has to do with the drums. If I spent more time I could probably think of other things. So in you eye!

I started drumming this very week. Once you get the hang of it, it comes pretty easy. I think I'll make drums my second instrument.

Yes the 16 beats are a bit of a headache but Im starting to get them down now ! The toms are still a bit of a mystery !

What sort of kit are you playing on ? I got a hold of a Yamaha DTXPRESS II electric thing and for the moment both me and my partner (headphones are cool !) are very pleased with it !!

Are you getting lessons or doing it from a book ? Im using a book as time is tight at the moment.

Love to know what you think !

Cool beans

Drums are really the one thing i don't think i'd enjoy, except maybe african drums. Im a pure improvisationalist, and songs are secondary to me, not primary. Before spending the cash on drums, i'd rather get a bass/keyboards, but thats just me.

Another really good thing about the drums (especially for us mid 30somethings going on 16) who are not as tight around the middle as they would like to imagine they once were, is that it is cool physical exercise !! Also Im doing it to tighten up my rhythm and timing, you know focus on your weakest bits and all that, as opposed to nurturing the sociopath with in me (that is a reference to hitting things by the way !!!!!! Eeeek !).
I am really enjoying it !
