Hi Vicki, I had a hard time with that pinkie G for a while too. I had to physically take my right hand and put my pinkie in position until it got used to that motion. I also found a you tube video called essential hand stretches for guitarists that really has helped get those fingers flexible. I have found that the pinkie G is important because sometimes you need your index finger to play other notes. Good luck.
