All the basic lessons and easy 1 and 2 level guitar songs here on GT I would consider very family friendly and taught at a level that most people and children around 8 and older should be able to pick up. Lisa McCormick, teaches the basic introduction to the guitar and does an exemplary job doing so. Lisa also has her own You Tube channel, with some basic guitar lessons.

There is a learning curve of course as one delves into more complicated material, but ample for the beginner. You can also check out Justin Guitar on You Tube, he also has lessons for younger players on his website.

If your son is king of some video game and button combo mashing his way to a new high score, he can learn guitar.
