Speed comes with time. If you want a 'goal' I personally play 24 notes per second (dunno what it does in notes/BPM) VAI Satch and Petrucci go at around 20, 16 for Hammett, and the guy from Mr Cucumber is at 42 per second (he's in the guiness for it)
