Hey LZ, here's a trick to check for Relief (Truss Rod Function), Fret your E string at the 1st fret (or use a capo), fret the same string at 15th fret with the other hand, use your little finger, now check the string to fret clearance around the 7-8th fret area, give it a close eyeballing, if you want to you can tap in this area with the thumb of the hand fretting the 15th fret, you should have some clearance between the string and the fret, btw, the guitar should be in a playing position when you do this, if you have clearence, fine, your buzz may be coming from something loose, or you might need to raise the bridge a little on the bass side, if you have no clearance you have a backbow in the neck and need a truss rod adjustment.
Bonus Hillbilly Trick, Fret each string at the highest fret, check string to pick-up clearance, if you don't have clearance, adjust the p/u down a little.... Good Luck!
