You shouldn't totally chuck all your books and CDs. You're going to have to aquire some knowlege from somewhere. A teacher is still one of the best and fastest way to learn. There are some jam along tracks on this site you might want to try. Here is a site to help you with your chords, http://www.chordfind.com . You might want to brush up on music theory. The boys on this site really know their sczyt. I know you probobally think this stuff is boring but it's all nessesary to solve the puzzle you call the frettboard. Scales, theory, chords, jamming and lots of practice are all pieces to the puzzle.
Hang in there, you'll get it. Someday when you least expect it, it's all gonna click and you're going to say, "OOOOH, that's what they were talking about!"
"Let that boy Boogie Woogie. Cause' it in em' and it got to come out." -John Lee Hooker-
There's no substitute for expeience. So get out there and break some strings on stage.
