I can't say I've thought much about sliding in to a chord or a note, I just sorta did it, I think it is best defined as a beginning, middle and an end.

In order to start the slide portion of the note, you have to strike it (strum/hit the note). Then you slide, having struck the start of the slide. Then yo resolve the end of the this but striking your destination note/chord.

The key is your ability to nuance the note. Is the start of the slide a hard strike or is it subtle and the destination note/chord. Is it a hard strike or a nice little decaying note.

A lot times the starting note is almost concurrent with the start of the slide...so things to think about.
