Try unison bends. Fret two strings and bend the lower note upwards to get a dischord that resolves when you get to the right pitch e.g. fret E at the 12 fret and Bend C to D or even E if you can manage that. This gives a cool screaming sound if you use distortion.
Try volume swells. Curl your little finger around the volume pot, strike the string with the volume at zero and uncurl your finger to create a nice smooth sound without the attack of the string.

Try some odd scales like this one; B Bhairava scale

BCD#EFG#AB

Basically an A harmonic minor scale with a d#

tons of major chords in this so odd as it may sound it's very useable.

or this one, G harmonic Major

GAbBCDEFG

Buy an ebow if you can afford one; I'm crap using mine but some people kick swathes of butt with one; basically it makes a controllable feedback loop that lasts until the batteries run out giving you flute like, violin like or harmonica like tones. Great for legato passages on one string but harder to use for sweep picking type things. The latest version has a setting that adds a harmonic to the fundamental note. A new way of playing but unfortunately expensive.. £100 uk quid or say $250 US. Look up prices, I'm not sure about the american one, that's a guess based on what i think the exchange rate is roughly.
If I couldn't laugh at myself how could I laugh at someone less ridiculous?
