One VERY important factor in finding an amp for home and private use when you need to keep the dB's down is to find one with a Master Volume control. The AC15 has one... So you're good to go.
The reason for wanting a Master Volume control is so you can control the overall volume of the amp while not sacrificing the tone when you go from cranked to bedroom settings. If you want to get good overdrive, you can still put the channel volume at 8-9 and adjust the Master Volume down to 2-3. This gives you the overdrive you're looking for but keeping the overall volume of the amp at a manageable level.
I owned an AC15 for several years and I will probably end up going back to one soon now that I have downsized from a house back into an apartment.
