Then there's exercises intended to improve stretch, i.e., reach. A long strong reach is important when working on chords/awkward patterns of fingering. My absolute favorite is this from Justin Guitar, http://www.justinguitar.com/en/TE-101-FingerStretchExercise.php This [U]will[/U] increase your reach over time. Again, the important thing here is to listen to Justin's instructions...start off slow...slow enough to make each note ring clear and true while maintaining proper positioning of the hand and fingers. Of course, stretching six frets from the first position probably ain't gonna happen at the beginning. I still can't quite make that distance but then, I remember when a four-fret stretch was difficult. :)
